Santa Clarita Audiologist Debunks Myth That People Can Be ‘Too Young’ For Hearing Devices

Nola Aronson of Advanced Audiology noted that a common reason why people avoid having their hearing loss treated is because they believe they are “too young” for hearing devices, but that this is simply not true.

“That is such a myth,” Aronson said. “Hearing loss can start at birth, so age cannot be related because it can occur at any time.”

Exposure to loud noises is the leading cause of hearing loss, according to Aronson, who noted this can take place at any age, and is an unfortunate problem often seen with military service members, law enforcement, firefighters, construction workers and gardeners.

“Any type of profession like that where you don’t wear hearing protection, the hair cells start to die, and they die in the place where there is the (consonant) sounds which give the meaning to a word,” Aronson said.
